Child Abuse And Its Implication On Academic Performance Of Secondary School Students

ABSTRACT

This study examined the implications of child abuse on academic performance of secondary school students in Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State. The populations used for the study include five (5) secondary schools totaling 2,400. From these numbers, 100 respondents were used using random sampling technique. The instrument for data collection employed was questionnaire, simple percentage was used as method of data collection to analyze data collected from respondents. The result of the data analyzed, should that there is a sign W cant difference between the academic performance of the abuse and the unabused child, there is a I significant difference between the academic performance of children staying with their parents and children staying with guardians or caretaker. There is a sign Jlcant difference between the academic performance of children of -the educated and no education parents. Based on the finding, the following recommendations were made among caller, that parents should devote more time and attention to their children, government should set in nation community and public enlighten intent campaigns, government should consider the desirability of enacting special laws against child abuse and other childhood maltreatments in the country.
